Daniele Strawmyre has been teaching children for over a decade. In that time she has taught creative movement, ballet, yoga, acting and story telling, technical theatre, arts and crafts, and eurhythmics. She has a long and vested interest in pedagogy, educational technology and creative movement. She believes dance and creative movement are valuable tools for learning, especially in the earlier stages of a child's development citing the importance of physical experience as a basis for cognitive development and processes. Proof of the importance of a mind/body connection in teaching and child development is apparent when one looks closely at how students think and reason as they are involved in the creative process in dance. Combining different art forms and varied sensory experiences in teaching younger children is useful as they need large amounts of varied stimulation to keep them engaged and focused. Tapping into their limitless and unfiltered imaginations is the key to creating a stimulating learning environment.
From leading children in writing and performing in plays or choreographing their own dances, she encourages her students to be creative and make choices in her student-centered teaching style, building their sense of self confidence, engaging their imaginations and giving them a sense of control and self actualization as they develop their coordination and strength.
Daniele has designed programs and taught at a number schools and art centers including the Northern Liberties Art Camp, Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School, University City Arts League, Wallingford Art Center, Perkins Center for the Arts, Greene Street Friends School, and The Suzuki School, among others. She received her BFA in dance from the University of the Arts in 1998. She continues to refine her teaching through the TAG (teaching artist group) program of Philadelphia and other continuing education courses. In addition to teaching children, Daniele teaches yoga and Pilates throughout Philadelphia and directs a multi-media performance company, readySetGO.
